My name is Lara Gordon and I started Dreamland Silent Disco & Social Club in the summer of 2017. I was in my early 30s and was very much tired of the nightclub scene. The music was always too loud, and I didn't always like what was being played. I disliked being hoarse and exhausted at the end of the night from trying to have a conversation with my friends. That being said, I knew I loved to dance.
I attended my first silent disco at a bar in Boston in 2015, and it was the most fun experience I had in years. I walked into a sweaty, dancing, singing room, and there was no music playing. The scene was jaw-dropping, and as soon as I got my headphones and joined the party, I couldn't stop giggling and felt pure joy. I was instantly hooked. Silent disco is easy on the senses, never over-stimulating, and surprisingly social. I've had many repeat attendees show up to tell me at check-in that they met each other at my last event. Also, being single, I was tired of online dating and wanted a new way to meet people. I started bringing colored glow bracelets as social-indicators to my parties: blue meaning you're looking to make friends and are open for conversation, red meaning you're there to dance alone or with your friends, green meaning you're single and looking to mingle, and rainbow for LGBTQ. The bracelets broke down social barriers even further, giving guests the experience that they wanted by indicating if they wanted to be approached or not.
I absolutely love what I do, and my next chapter in life is to move to a place that I love just as much. In 2019 I will be moving my company from Boston, MA to Vancouver Island, BC, while still maintaining some presence in the Boston area using the connections I've made with local DJs and businesses. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or comments. You can follow my personal journey on Instagram @loxontherun, or follow my silent disco company @dreamlandsilentdisco. Hope to see you at my next party!
